Birding in Dallas – Red-Bellied Woodpecker

Here’s a capture of a red-bellied woodpecker from a few weeks ago.  Captured with Canon 7D and Canon 400 5.6 L sitting on my Induro CT314 Tripod.

Why do they call it a red bellied woodpecker when the head is clearly the red part? Do ornthologists suffer from spacial orientation problems?

who is about 40 miles NE of you near Greenville

Hello Stephanie – So true!! I’ve often wondered the same thing….these birds do have a bit of a red-belly but not near as read as their head! :)

Good to see someone close by!

Another clear and sharp picture. You have to tell me where you get these. Come on and share!

      Thanks Danny.

I caught this woodpecker at Breckenridge Park in Richardson TX…lots of birding opportunities over there.
