I’ve been trying to find new areas in the Dallas area for birding. While searching last night I found the Spring Creek Forest Preserve website and decided to check it out today.
The Preserve is split into two sections, one on each side of the highway. The first section was almost empty of birds or any types of animals. I walked all the trails and saw one woodpecker but he was too high up in the tree with terrible light to get a good shot of him.
I drove across the highway to the second section and was immediately pleased with seeing a ton of cardinals. Someone in the area had put bird-seed down and the area was packed with cardinals, sparrows (a few different kinds…still ID’ing them) and a few Blue Jays.
I was able to setup my Canon 7D, Canon 500mm f/4 L and Induro CT314 tripod and got some pretty good shots. I’m working through them now but I wanted to share this Female Cardinal for your enjoyment.
If you’re in Dallas and looking for a good birding place, check out the Spring Creek Forest Preserve in Garland TX.
Jump over and view this on my flickr stream in the largest size…it’s a great capture (if I can say so!).
