This weekend was a terrible weekend for photography around my place. I was busy plus there was very poor light outside due to the rain and overcast sky.
I spent most of the weekend indoors would peek out occasionally hoping to see a new bird to grab a photo of. Toward the end of the day on Saturday I walked out to get the mail and saw a big fat mockingbird sitting in our front tree.
I stepped back inside and grabbed my Canon EOS 5D which had my Canon EF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L IS USM
with a Canon EF 1.4X II Extender
attached. I’ve been playing around with the 1.4 Extender to see if it can me some extra ‘reach’ without jeopardizing quality…and I have not been happy with it.
I snapped a few photos of the mockingbird and got one that was decent…see below. The extender isn’t working out for me…I’m going to be taking it off just stick with the 400mm max for now. I am looking for a longer lens (500mm+)….look out checkbook!

Mockinbird - Taken with Canon 5D, 100-400mm L w/ 1.4x Extender for 540mm focal length. ISO800, 1/40sec at f / 7.1
