I sent a tweet the other night about being chased by a moose while meandering around Two Ocean Lake in The Grand Teton National Park. I thought I’d expand on that story and provide some commentary and more photos….it was an interesting time for sure!
My wife and I (Tracie – a great wedding photographer in Dallas) were visiting The Grand Tetons and Yellowstone in September 2009. We were really hoping to see a Moose and, until this awesome experience with this female moose.
Tracie and I were walking around the lake looking at the view and waterfowl and, after walking about 25 yards along the lake I noticed some commotion across the lake.
I looked closer and saw this moose! The moose walked toward us slowly while drinking from the lake….and she kept coming. And coming.
Eventually, she cut us off from the path we took to the lake and kept walking toward us. We kept moving as much as we could…until we ran out of shoreline and couldn’t walk any further.
And the moose kept coming!
Luckily, we found a slightly hidden path up and away from the lake and the moose. That hill wasn’t easy to get up with camera equipment!
I found the photos of the encounter and thought I’d share some of them via a slideshow.
Enjoy….these photos were taken over the course of 10 minutes with the last few photos being taken from the of the steep path we found. These are all full frame taken with a Canon 5D and Canon 400mm 5.6….you’ll notice in the last few photographs that we are really really close…I’d say less than 30 yards.
