Sharp Photo – Finally!

For the last few weeks I’ve been very frustrated. I’ve not been able to get the sharp photos that I know my Canon EOS 5D and my Canon EF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L IS USM are capable of. Tonight…I finally got the sharpness that I expect from this combo.

The photo isn’t anything special…a dove on my fence.  He (she?) was sitting about 10 feet away in some great light.  Taken with Canon EOS 5D and Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM lens @ 400mm, f/8.0 at 1/640sec with +2/3 EV exposure bias.

I am impressed! As one who is considering buying a new lens (80-400mm)for a Nikon camera, I am encouraged to see such sharp results. Not sure if the Canon is a better lens than the Nikon, probably! You did well and should be rightfully pleased! Thanks for sharing. (Andy) Ingleman on flickr & ephotozine. England

Hi Andy – You are welcome! Thanks for stopping by.

The 100-400mm for Canon is a great lens…not sure about the nikon equivalent though. I'm sure there's one just as good (if not better).

I shot with the same combo and experienced some of the same frustrations. It is all about the light. I shot a lot of eagles and am never satisfied unless the light is perfect. That is when I get my sharp images.

  6. Hi Mike –

You are so right…it’s all about the light.

BTW – You’re eagle shots are amazing!
