Squirrel preparing for winter?

I went out to Prairie Creek Park in Richardson this morning. Not many birds but lots of squirrels. Captured this one collecting nuts for the winter. Captured with Canon 1D Mark III and Canon 400mm 5.6 L.

Great Egret + Great Blue Heron – White Rock Lake

While out at White Rock Lake last week, I saw these two great birds staring at each other. I setup the shot and catptured it with Canon 1D Mark III with Canon 400mm 5.6 L with Canon 1.4x extender sitting on my Induro CT314 tripod.

Antelope Squirrel – Valley of Fire

This is an Antelope Squirrel we found in the Valley of Fire near Las Vegas. We visited the Valley of Fire on the way back from Zion. Taken with Canon 7D and Canon 400mm 5.6 L handheld.

And yes…it WAS that Red in the Valley of Fire

Butterfly and Friend with Canon 400mm 5.6 + Canon 2x Extender

While out playing around with my new Canon 2x Extender on my Canon 400mm 5.6 L, I saw this butterfly on a flower. He was kind enough to stay still long enough for me to focus and get a few shots off. PLUS…there’s a bonus….I got a fly in the photo as well! The extender is working well.

Female House Finch at 1280mm

Here’s a female house finch from the backyard. This is a full-frame shot…no cropping. The finch was about 10 to 12 feet away.

I got a Canon 2x Extender II for my birthday and threw it on my Canon 400mm 5.6 L to test it out. The extender gets me a focal length of 1280mm on the Canon 7D! awesome I do see some degradation in sharpness but i think it’s my manual focusing skills (or lack thereof).
